Chinese Folk Dance

Chinese Theatre Works’ traditional performing arts variety programs present a broad cross- section of classical and folk performing arts including scenes from Chinese operas, music, and dance. All programs feature our company of extraordinary Chinese opera performers and musicians, who are highly skilled in performing the traditional repertoire. They also include entertaining and informative introductions for each presentation.

The many minority peoples of China have their own regional dance specialties. CTW’s resident folk dance performers present a wide-ranging tour of ethnic folk traditions that includes the Mongolian Horse Dance, the Dai People’s Peacock Dance, the Chao Xian Drum Dance, and the Han people’s Ribbon Dance and Handkerchief Dance.

Past presenters include: Lincoln Center, American Museum of Natural History, Indianapolis International Festival, Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, NYC Multicultural Festival, NYU, Emerson College, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, PS 169 (Brooklyn), PS 122 (Queens), & Queens Central Library.
