Instrumental Music

Chinese Theatre Works’ traditional performing arts variety programs present a broad cross- section of classical and folk performing arts including scenes from Chinese operas, music, and dance. All programs feature our company of extraordinary Chinese opera performers and musicians, who are highly skilled in performing the traditional repertoire. They also include entertaining and informative introductions for each presentation.

Our instrumental music programs feature some of the most talented Chinese classical and folk musicians in the U.S. presenting gems of Chinese music performed on the Shen (Chinese mouth organ), Guzheng (zither), Pipa (lute), Erhu (two-string fiddle), flute, and other traditional Chinese instruments. The program includes an introduction to Chinese folk and classical music, as well as lore and mythology associated with the instruments.

Past presenters include: Lincoln Center, American Museum of Natural History, Indianapolis International Festival, Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, NYC Multicultural Festival, NYU, Emerson College, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, PS 169 (Brooklyn), PS 122 (Queens), & Queens Central Library.
