About The Company

History

Chinese Theatre Works was formed in 2001 through the merger of two non-profit arts organizations dedicated to the Chinese performing arts: The Gold Mountain Institute for Traditional Shadow Puppetry (founded in 1975 by Jo Humphrey) and Chinese Theatre Workshop (founded in 1990 by Kuang-Yu Fong). Artists

Chinese Theatre Works' performing company is made up of classically trained Chinese opera artists and skilled puppeteers, reflecting our commitment to maintaining the highest artistic standards in all of our performances. Similarly, our Arts in Education program is staffed by teaching artists who together have nearly a century of classroom experience with students of all ages. Job & Internship

POSITION:Educator

SALARY:$40,477 per year

HOURS:Usual hours - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, however may vary according to performance schedule; 40/Hr. Week

DUTIES:Design and revise educational materials, teach and coordinate internal workshops for internal training, outreach and communicate with our potential venues and audience and update information for our web site. Will host CTW performances and teach audience about Chinese cultural history, Chinese opera role-types, the meaning of costumes, hairstyle, makeup, opera movements, and other aspects of Chinese performing arts. Will discuss programs with Chinese language speaking performers and presenters and will engage in program related historical and literary research using Chinese language source materials. Will interact with audience, answering questions, interpreting the meaning of the performances, and giving demonstrations. Will provide appropriate instruction and educational material according to appropriate age and community group. May also give lectures to students, artists, and other educators. Travel is required for the duration of programs being presented in the New York metropolitan area, as well as throughout the United States.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Masters in education or communication. Must speak and read Mandarin Chinese.
